Care Ministry
The ministry of Deacon, as set forth in Scripture, is one of compassion, witness, and service, sharing in the redeeming love of Jesus Christ for the poor, the hungry, the sick, the lost, the friendless, and the oppressed. Deacons also minister to anyone who is burdened by unjust policies or structures, as well as to those who are experiencing any type of distress.
Persons chosen for this ministry should exhibit spiritual character, honesty, agape [selfless] love, sincere compassion, and sound judgment.
...therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
— 1 Thessalonians 5:11
Deacons have the privilege of providing temporary care to members of our church and the community who experience challenges
As Christians, we are all called to care for each other, but the Deacon’s ministry focuses specifically on providing care, compassion and love to people. The focus of our ministry is having regular personal contact with members with special needs including:
Staying in touch with members who are going through difficult times, and helping to provide support with meals, care, or just listening
Serving as a communication link – for information, concerns, and prayers; and more
An effective deacon body is directed by Scripture. The Bible clearly teaches responsibilities of deacons. It also describes Christ's teachings and examples regarding pastoral care. Luke 4:18, John 21:17, 2 Corinthians 1:3-5, and 1 Peter 5:2 provide great examples and give guidance and direction for serving.
Our Deacon Assembly is pastoral-care focused.
